ODCA announces speakers for October convention
Eliminating weak aspects of your business and generating strong first impressions will be the main topics of discussion during the educational portion of the Oregon Dry Cleaners Association’s annual convention, set for October 8-10.
This year’s venue will be the Eugene Hilton & Conference Center in Oregon, located at 66 East 6th Ave.
Nancy Ames Cole, a professional speaker, trainer and coach, will conduct a workshop designed to help attendees plan, polish and present themselves effectively in only 30 seconds so that they never have to worry about making a positive, lasting first impression.
During the session, cleaners will learn how to write their own “script” and build personal confidence by developing their body posture, voice and personal presence.
Cole, who has an M.S. degree, is a successful competitive and symposium speaker for the University of Oregon. She also has experience teaching for the same university and Portland State University, as well.
Also slated to speak at the convention is Michael S. Huard, ChFC, CLU, who will present a “Business Killers” workshop.
He will help business owners identify and assess weak areas in their company that could potentially kill business and endanger their financial future.
Huard promises that the presentation will feature no charts, graphs or boring slides.
Rounding out the speaker list for the ODCA convention will be Helen Russon of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry, who will outline some of the latest regulations for state cleaners, and Dave Silliman, District 7 director for IFI, who will offer his thoughts on small business marketing. Silliman was the recipient of the IFI Commitment to Professionalism Award during the 2003 Clean Show in Las Vegas.
In addition to the informational seminars, the convention will also feature tabletop vendors. So far, companies who have signed up to present include Business Killers, Imagine Cleaners Online, CleanSuite, Northwest Solvents and Taylor Boiler & Equipment Company.
Other events planned include a president’s reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and a buffet lunch hosted in the vendor room from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Later during the same day, ODCA will host a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner where the Tom Mosher Award will be presented to an Oregon cleaner who has demonstrated exemplary involvement in ODCA, as well as the drycleaning industry.
On Sunday, a general membership meeting and a board meeting are scheduled during the morning, concluding the weekend convention.
Registration for cleaners is available on the web at www.orgeondrycleaners.org.
Member registration for all events is $69 for those who sign up prior to October 1. Non-members must pay $99 prior to that same date. After that, members pay $99 each and non-members pay $139.
