Anton’s Cleaners kicks off 10th
annual Coats for Kids drive
More than 261,000 coats have been cleaned
and distributed free of charge during the first nine years of Anton’s
Cleaners’ Coats for
Kids program.
The company is hoping to add to those
numbers with another successful run this year. The 10th annual
drive officially began on October 15 and runs until January 15.
Anton’s, which is the largest
clothing care company in New England, has a simple goal: anyone
needing a winter coat will have one.
This year, Anton’s will be teaming
up with promotional co-sponsors WFXT Fox 25 and the NHL’s
Boston Bruins.
Other supporting partners include: All
Sports Promotions, Batten Brothers Signs, Bertucci’s
Ristorante, Brigham’s Inc., Citizens Bank, Commercial
Comfort, Gradient Corporation, Graham Communications, J.L.
Hammett Co., Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP, Package Supply
Corporation. RAM Leather. Roche Brothers and Williams
Engineering.
Anton’s will accept donations at all
43 of its locations. All winter coats in both children and
adult sizes will be accepted, provided the garments are in good
condition — meaning they aren’t ripped, stained, or
have broken zippers.
Once collected and cleaned, the coats will
be distributed to families who need them by the Salvation Army
of Massachusetts, the state’s community action programs
and local organizations in New Hampshire.
As an added motivation, this year’s
drive will feature a School Rewards program that awards prizes
to three elementary and middle schools who donate the most
number of coats per student.
The winning elementary school will receive
$1,000 cash, a Brigham’s Sundae Part and a visit by a FOX
25 weatherman. The middle school grand prize is $1,000 cash, a
Brigham’s Sundae Party, a $250 J.L. Mammett Co. gift
certificate and a visit by a Boston Bruins player.
NEFA honors Friel with tournament,
scholarship
The North East
Fabricare Association recently
renamed its annual Clean Classic golf tournament after its
former president Bradley Friel, who passed away from cancer
earlier this summer.
The event, which was held in Paxton,
Massachusetts on Sept. 29, is now called the Bradley Friel
Memorial golf tournament.
The NEFA board of directors wanted to
honor Friel, who enjoyed the golf tournament very much and
often attended. In addition to being the association’s
immediate past president, he was also a board member for over
20 years and was a District Committee Member of IFI.
NEFA further paid tribute to Friel by
establishing a scholarship in his name. A portion of the
proceeds earned from the association’s annual golf outing
will be used to help cover tuition for a selected student of
IFI’s Drycleaning School or Management program in
Maryland.
Scholarship applications will be available
and accepted each year between October 1 and January 15. The
recipient will be selected at NEFA’s January Board of
Director’s meeting.
Call NEFA at (800) 442-6848 for more
information.
