SCRD reports on remediation progress
The State
Coalition for the Remediation of Drycleaners (SCRD) reports that environmental
assessment has begun at nearly 970 sites and has been completed
at about 480 sites in 11 of its 13 member states. Those 11
states — Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas,
Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee,
and Wisconsin — cover about 3,265 drycleaning sites. Two
other SCRD states — Missouri and Texas — are just
beginning the application processes.
Remediation activities have been performed
at about 260 sites and completed at 86 sites, SCRD said.
Another 170 sites have been closed under state programs. Those
include sites closed after only assessment work (because
contaminant concentrations were below standards or cleanup
target levels), sites closed after monitoring only (no remedial
system installed), and sites closed after remediation was
performed.
An overview of remediation programs in
SCRD states, including the basic elements, fee structures, and
administrative information, is available on the SCRD web site, www.drycleancoalition.org.
Other information available on the web
site includes details reviews and case studies of various
technologies that have been employed in clean-ups and
information about SCRD and reports on its meetings.
