| The
Big Finish line of new Doctor Who audio dramas is the closest we've come
to the real return of Doctor Who since the show was axed just over ten
years ago. The tapes or CDs are structured just like the tv series complete
with theme tune and traditional cliff hangers.
Sylvestor McCoy sounds like no time has passed between that last Somewhere speech at the conclusion of Survival, he recreates his role seemingly so effortlessly. I'd say his performance is the best from the cast of Fearmonger and he seems to bring out the best from all the other players when they share a scene with him. Some of the Sylv and Sophie scenes are pretty special and I think the pair couldn't have done Jonathan Blum's script more justice than they do. All the player's have distinctive voices which really helps on this kind of production. It's nice to hear (Blake's 7 regular and one time augmented Androgum Chessene) Jacqueline Pearce throwing herself into her role. Production standards are high and I certainly had to listen at a more neighbour annoying sound level after I'd listened to it at more conservative levels at night with the lights off.
